They’ll Play Danny Boy at my Funeral

By John Tustin

They’ll play Danny Boy at my funeral.
A few people will cry.
They’ll play Many Rivers to Cross.
The casket will be closed.
I will be cremated.
They’ll play All Things Must Pass.
Life will move on for everyone else.
I will be thought about less and less.
I won’t get hurt anymore.
The pain and confusion will be gone.
They’ll play I’m Free From the Chain Gang Now,
Thinking about dinner or sleep or something else
As they say goodbye.

John Tustin’s poetry has appeared in many disparate literary journals over the last dozen years. contains links to his published poetry online.
