Dark Flame

By Steve Carter

            flames

            smolder

            in darkness

            refusing to ignite

            fire in the blood

            ice

            frosted over the eye

            bloodriver of fire

            never burns smooth

            flames lap

            the empty air

            sucking the very life

            out of it
